Maggie Gallagher @ CD's Corral
I knew it would be a good day but I still am tenderly walking today
after a great dance out yesterday.
Maggie Gallagher came to Newbury and joined Caroline for the day.
The friendliness of the choreographer, she chatted and encouraged us
all individually and as a whole, and the warm welcome from Caroline
and her family together with the eagerness to 'just dance' by everyone
there made for a fantastic day. Before I mention the new dances, three
new for me I already know and love the fourth, I just want to mention
the best bit for me and I wish I could have watched it but as its a
favorite dance I had to dance it too, was seeing Maggie with Caroline
and her daughter Rachel dancing GUARDIAN ANGEL at the front,
absolutely beautiful.
We started with a little dance to get us going called WORKIN 4 A LIVIN
(music by Garth Brooks & Huey Lewis) only 32 counts couple of restarts
and a little tag but a dance that could be enjoyed by many. The music
is great the dance fits well and made the hall eager to do more.
Quite quickly we were onto the second teach a dance not yet scripted
only thought of Thursday was a pop dance with plenty of opportunities
for attitude. We were told the dance would be online next week. RUN IT
BACK (music from High School Musical2) I enjoy watching other people
while dancing and it was good to see the extroverts with all the
attitude as well as the gentler dancers enjoying it without the funky
bumps and squat!
I'd heard about the third dance and really hoped it was going to be
taught a night club 2-step MORE THAN A MEMORY. I wasn't dissapointed,
its a lovely dance and the second walk through definitely made it
smoother and every step fell into place, By the evening the hall
danced it like we had known it a while very fluid and beautiful.
Maggie explained the ending of the music and yes I agree its a shame
that it fades and slows but I'm so glad she still used it.
In the evening Maggie taught TOUCH ME LIKE THAT (music Dannii
Minogue). I learnt this a couple of weeks ago and really enjoy it.
people put off by the music should see the dance, it is a dance that
fits within the track perfectly.
In between the teaches Phil played a wide mix of dances old and new
and at all levels, Non vanilla dancers were encouraged to stay at the
back so that all levels of dancers could enjoy the whole experience.
At an event like this when previous Maggie greats were played and
danced you realise the wide variety of dances Maggie has chreographed
and how good they are when we can remember them and race to the floor.
What i enjoy most though is seeing a teacher enjoying her dancing too
whilst still encouraging and appreciating achievments of all her class
members. Thank you Caroline, and finally thank you Maggie for a
fantastic day.
